The USF Women’s Status Committee is sponsoring MiniAwards to recognize and support women and USF organizations that work for women’s issues. MiniAwards from $250 to $500 will be awarded to individual(s) or organization(s) working to support or highlight women’s issues and concerns at USF. The mission of the Women’s Status Committee, one of five President Advisory Committees at USF, is to encourage and support activities that highlight women’s issues and concerns, help ensure equal access to educational opportunities and services provided to women, and recognize leadership qualities in those working to advance women and girls.

Who can apply?

Applicants for the MiniAwards can be either an individual or a USF organization. The applicant must have an affiliation with USF, either as a student, faculty, staff, employee, or organization. Each applicant (or representative of a USF organization) is required to complete this application and to write an proposal of no more than 250 words explaining how s/he or the organization has worked to improve the lives of girls and women through mentoring, career advancement, healthcare, safety and wellbeing, programs and activities, or social justice projects.

What can the funds be used for?

Individuals may wish to utilize MiniAwards to offset the cost of books, research materials, conference registrations, or travel expenses. Organizations may wish to utilize mini-awards to help sponsor speakers, offset food expenses, host conferences or meetings, fund publicity materials, or purchase advertising. There will be a maximum of 10 “mini-awards” given, 6 that can be used for expenses and 4 that can be used for food costs. The winning abstracts will be posted here on the WSC website to promote women throughout the year at USF.

When’s the deadline?

Welcome

Welcome to the homepage of the Women's Status Committee, one of five Presidential Advisory Committees at USF. This site contains information regarding events, activities, and resources to help women at USF in their educational and career pursuits. As our logo indicates, the WSC is dedicated to working for women at USF.

Charge of the Committee

The Women's Status Committee is responsible for advising the President of the University on matters affecting women faculty, staff, and students of the University. The committee shall be particularly concerned with those university policies concerning the welfare and activities of women with regard to educational and employment opportunities at the University, as well as the social and cultural climate in the University setting.

Mission of the Committee

As part of that charge, we focus on defining activities that the Committee may undertake in support of that charge:

    Encourage, support, and participate in activities that highlight women's issues and concerns;

    Direct and review attention to ensuring equal access to educational opportunities and services provided to women by the university (e.g., scholarship opportunities for women);

    Review factors contributing to the overall physical and social well being of all women on campus (e.g., women's health care coverage and provisions by the University, family day care concerns, family leave, etc.);

    Address issues concerning equitable pay for women in hiring, retention, and promotion (e.g., support studies to investigate and promote the employment and retention of female faculty and staff, and the promotion and compensation of women into tenured or high level positions).

    Recognize leadership qualities in those who have exhibited a willingness and ability to nurture, support, and advance women and girls.  This includes mentoring in the community, focusing on the health and well-being of women and girls, fostering programs that support women’s leadership, affecting policy and decision making, and working on social justice issues.
