Dr. Ryalls joined the Department of Communication in 2011. Her research interests include feminist media studies, cultural studies, critical gender studies, youth studies, and critical race and ethnicity studies. Current projects include an investigation of representations of girls’ bullying in media (movies such as Mean Girls and television shows like Gossip Girl) and an examination of Emo - the first music-based subculture to be almost entirely cultivated and maintained via the Internet.
